Black Friday Emails With AI
Black Friday 2026 lands on Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday on 30 November. You need about four short emails, and AI can draft all of them in one afternoon. The catch: give it your real offer and your voice first, or it writes like every other inbox. Then check each email against Australia's three spam rules before you send.
Key takeaways
Black Friday 2026 is Friday 27 November; Small Business Saturday is 28 November; Cyber Monday is 30 November (Business Victoria).
Four emails cover it: heads up, it's on, a weekend nudge and a last call.
AI sounds robotic when it has to guess. Your offer, your customer and your voice remove the guessing.
Australian shoppers plan to spend an average of A$346 over the BFCM weekend, and 85% would rather wait for the right product than settle (Shopify, 2026).
Every commercial email needs consent, clear sender details and a working unsubscribe, actioned within five business days (ACMA).
It's mid-October. You know Black Friday is coming. You also know that if you leave the emails until the Thursday night before, you'll end up typing "BIG SALE!!!" into a subject line at 11pm and hating yourself a little.
Here's the good news. This is exactly the kind of job AI is brilliant at, as long as you set it up properly. Here's how to get four Black Friday emails written in one afternoon, sounding like you, and inside the rules.
When is Black Friday 2026 in Australia?
Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026. Small Business Saturday follows on 28 November, and Cyber Monday is Monday 30 November. Those dates come from Business Victoria's 2026 guide to online shopping days, which also notes that sales are starting earlier each year.
So the real window isn't one Friday. It's the week before, through to Monday night. Your emails should follow that shape.
Why do AI-written sale emails sound like robots?
Because AI fills every gap with the average. Ask it to "write a Black Friday email" and it has nothing to go on except every other Black Friday email ever written. So you get "Unlock incredible savings!" and "Don't miss out!" and a lot of exclamation marks nobody asked for.
That isn't the AI being bad at writing. It's the AI being under-briefed. We covered this in Dots Won't Fix a Bad Brief: the better your brief, the less the tool has to guess.
What should you give AI before it writes a word?
Five things. Have them ready before you open ChatGPT, Claude or whatever you use:
The exact offer. "20% off all prompt packs, 27 to 30 November, code FRIDAY20." Not "a sale".
Who it's for. Existing customers? People who downloaded a freebie but never bought? Say so.
Your voice. Paste in a few lines of how you actually write, or your voice file if you have one. If you don't, build a simple voice file first. It's a one-off job that fixes this problem for good.
The dates and cut-offs. Start time, end time, last order date for delivery, booking limits.
One thing you won't say. "No fake urgency." "Never say 'limited time only'." This one line does more for your voice than any adjective.
How many Black Friday emails do you actually need?
Four is plenty for most small businesses. Here's the run we suggest:
Mon 23 Nov: Heads up. What's coming, when it starts, and why your list gets first look.
Fri 27 Nov: It's on. The offer, the deadline and one button. Nothing else.
Sat 28 Nov: Small Business Saturday. A short, human note about buying from small, local businesses like yours.
Mon 30 Nov: Last call. Cyber Monday close. Say exactly when it ends, down to the time.
Optional fifth: a thank-you to everyone who bought, a week later. No offer. Just thanks. It's the email people actually remember.
What's the prompt?
Copy this, fill in the brackets, and paste it into your AI tool. Paste your voice notes straight underneath it.
I run [your business] in [your town]. My customers are [who they are]. I'm running a Black Friday offer: [exact offer, dates, code or booking details]. Write four short emails for my list: (1) a heads-up on Monday 23 November, (2) launch on Friday 27 November, (3) a Small Business Saturday nudge on 28 November, (4) a last call on Cyber Monday, 30 November, ending at [time]. For each, give me three subject line options under 45 characters, a preview line, and a body under 120 words with one clear call to action. Write in my voice using the notes below. No exclamation marks in subject lines, no fake urgency, no "unlock" or "don't miss out". Ask me any questions you need before you start.
That last line matters. It lets the AI ask what it's missing instead of making it up.
Do you even need a big discount?
Not necessarily, and the 2026 numbers back that up. Shopify's 2026 Holiday Retail Report found Australians plan to spend an average of A$346 over the Black Friday Cyber Monday weekend, up from A$324 last year. But 85% said they'd rather wait and buy the right product than settle for the easiest option, and 54% are choosing independent or niche brands more often than last year (IT Brief, 7 October 2026).
That's good news for small businesses. People are shopping carefully, not just chasing the deepest cut. So your offer can be value, not just a percentage:
A bonus with purchase (a template, a check-in call, a free add-on)
A bundle that's better value than buying separately
Early access for your email list before anyone else
For service businesses: book now at this year's price for a job in the new year
Ask the AI to give you three offer ideas based on your margins before it writes the emails. If you're not sure a sale is even worth running, our "Should I be using AI for this?" decision rule works for offers too: start with the outcome you want, not the tactic.
What are the spam rules for Black Friday emails in Australia?
Every commercial email you send has to follow three rules under the Spam Act 2003, according to the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA):
Consent. People must have agreed to hear from you, and you need to be able to prove it.
Identify. Each email must clearly say who it's from, with accurate contact details.
Unsubscribe. Every email needs an easy way to opt out, and opt-out requests must be actioned within five business days.
AI won't check any of this for you. It will happily write a lovely email to a list you bought off someone in 2019. Your email platform handles the unsubscribe link, but consent is on you. This is general information, not legal advice; read the ACMA page if you're unsure.
How do you check AI's draft before it goes out?
Give every email the two-minute once-over:
Read it out loud. If you wouldn't say it to a customer at the counter, change it.
Delete the first sentence. AI loves a warm-up line. The second sentence is usually the real start.
Check every number yourself. Prices, dates, codes, end times. AI is confident, not careful.
Send a test to your phone. Most of your list will read it there.
